    Prisoners of Honour (1946)

    • Film: Forçats d'honneur / Prisoners of Honour - We Lived Through Buchenwald (1946)
      Year poster printed: 1946
      Country: Belgium
      Size (inches): 11.25” x 16.5”

This is an original, rolled, Belgian movie poster from 1946 for Forçats d'honneur (released in the US as We Lived Through Buchenwald) starring Rene Herde, Andre Gevrey, Marcel Josz, Werner Degan, Joseph Gevers, Hubert Daix, Maurice Auzat, and Anne-Marie Ferrieres. E.G. de Meyst directed the film about life and resistance in Buchenwald. The Belgian film is the final film in a trilogy by Meyst and is one of the earliest films about the life during the Holocaust.

The poster measures 11.25” x 16.5” and is in excellent condition with minimal wear from handling. It was never used for theatrical display and has never been folded. The poster was sourced from Belgium where it was carefully stored since 1946. It features the Flemish title for the film "Eeregaleiboeven - De weg naar Buchenwald."

The reverse side of the poster is a World War II military map of Cherbourg, France. After World War II, there were widespread paper shortages and the some of the early, post-war film posters were printed on the backside of maps from the war. It is rare to see a poster from this immediate post-war era in such pristine condition.

Please look closely at the photos of the poster and map (on the the reverse side. This is the exact poster you are buying. The black squares in the corners of the poster are magnets and not pins.

This very rare and collectible poster, printed in 1946 to promote the Belgian theatrical release of Forçats d'honneur, is not a reprint or a reproduction.
